![]() Mr. Bo Milton headmaster of Sjödalsgymnasiet presenting Sjödalsgymnasiet cup to Mr. Matthew Barzun the ambassador of USA to Sweden, Wednesday 16 March 2011, at the end of his addressing to a group of NV-College students. ![]() Mr. Matthew Barzun the ambassador of USA to Sweden addressing a group of NV-College (International Natural Science, INS Gy11) students at Sjödalsgymnasiet, Wednesday 16 March 2011.
To any ninth grader who is about to embark on their exciting high school future,
If You are anxious about which programme that is right for You, don't be alarmed. I remember those nerve wrecking days back in 2003 (!) when I had absolutely no idea about what to choose. Social studies vs. natural science? A school close to home so I could practice ice hockey during the days vs. a school closer to the the city? It was difficult because it felt like such an important desicion. My future was at stake! Well maybe not that dramatical.. Anyway, today I can honestly say that I am very pleased that I chose INS (or NVCO as it was called before the iPhone). INS is a challenging yet fun programme. You will go through a period of life which prepares You in the best possible way for higher education. The teachers demand a lot from You, but will repay You with great enthusiasm and the drive to release all Your potential. At the same time You will meet new friends who You will bond and share unforgettable times with. For example, my class went to Poland on exchange and had the best time! Everytime I meet one of my former classmates today we talk and laugh for hours discussing that fantastic trip! I can guarantee that You will also have something great to remember from Your time at the INS programme in five years or so. The most obvious advantage of INS is of course the English. If You want to obtain an academic degree it is absolutely essential that You know English. Almost all course litterature is written in it and if You look even further into the future, even Swedish companies are broadening their networks internationally and English is the true business language of choice. Another feature of INS - which I maybe appreciate more today as an engineering student - is that You have to work hard for Your grades. It may sound horrible, but trust me it has helped me more than I can even begin to describe. Studying at an higher level is very tough, but with the excellent guidance that I recieved from the teachers at INS I have managed to cope well. So to conclude. If You're looking for a challenge to combine with great friendships then INS is definitely for You. Furthermore, it gives You competence in English and a solid ground to stand on when it's time for higher education. You will not regret Your choice, I know I haven't! Sincerely,
The biggest reason to why I chose
Nv College (International Natural Science, INS Gy11), was due to the English. I was determined to chose a scientific program, but I didn´t know which or where. When I first heard of a program where half of the education was to be held in English, I thought it sounded perfect. I love to travel and I would like to continue my studies abroad, and when you do, it´s beneficial to know an international language like English. I also enjoy learning languages overall, and so the fact that “modern language" step 3 and 4 (or 1 and 2), are included in the course, made me even more confident about my chose.I have to say that I was a bit worried that the English would be too hard, especially in math and physics, but that´s basically the least problem. You get the hang of it pretty quick, and then it just feels natural. Even if the English is a bit tricky, you are always welcome to ask in Swedish. Now, after nearly three years, I´m extremely pleased with my choice. I feel that I have improved my English as well as German, and I´m much more confident when using all three languages, Swedish, English as well as German now. I would absolutely recommend this program to those who are interested in science and language. Bramsäter, Jenny NVCO08 ![]()
My name is Markus Gunnefur and I have soon completed my third and last fantastic year in NvCO08
(NV-College, International Natural Science, INS, Gy11)

I always knew I wanted to study on a scientific program but when I came to the introduction at "Sjödalsgymnasiet" I realized that I had more than one opportunity. I saw the English language like a challenge and I prepared to struggle with it. When we started school I realized the difference, we can express ourselves in Swedish if it's easier but we still have a great opportunity to develop the English. During my first two year here I've developed a lot and there will be more to come.
Linda Nilsson, NVCO09! (NV-College, International Science Program, INS Gy11) ![]() NV-College (International Natural Science Program, INS) was the perfect choice for me. I didn´t choose it only because I was interested in the natural science subjects, but mostly because it gave me the chance to combine school with playing tennis. Since I practice a lot, homework would have to wait until the evenings. But now that I have tennis on my schedule, I´ve got plenty of time to finish off homework early, and then have the rest of the day free. The fact that the course also was partially in English, which will be a great preparation for universal studies abroad, was a real bonus.
You might ask yourself, why should I choose this program? And to be honest I can´t really answer that question besides telling you why I choose it in the first place. But I can´t do that either, without telling you a little about myself, so here I go. My name is Goran, and as you probably already know, I too belong to a generation of Nv-Collegers, or as it is called now INS. Anyhow, I´ve always known that I want to become a surgeon, and INS seemed to be the perfect program for me, and it certainly was. I truly believe that this program will enhance my chances of becoming a surgeon, just because of the fact that we are constantly surrounded by the English language. And for me who want to become a surgeon that is very import, because I have to continue my studies after high school, and all of those studies are in English. So this program prepares me well for my future, but enough about me. I´m sure that you are wondering about a lot of stuff, but I´m going to sum it up for you. This program is not made for any kind of lazy people what so ever, even though you´re smart, you won´t make it that way! Quite frankly you don´t even have to have all MVG or A as you will call it from now on to make it, you just to have a strong will and know what you want with your life.

Are you confused of what you want to be in the future?
Or if you´re definitely sure you want to work with something inside science, and you also feel comfortable speaking English, then NV-College (International Natural Science, INS Gy11) here in Sjödalsgymnasiet is the right program for you.
I chose NV-College program at Sjödalsgymnasiet because first of all I wanted to study on a scientific program, and when I went to an “introduction" about Sjödalsgymnasiet courses I fall for it. Another reason was that I wanted to improve my English, both in writing, talking, reading and further more to improve my confidence in English.

Sarah Felldin, NV-College 05
